A number of the clinical manifestations are in effect complications of the disease, such as pain, aspiration pneumonia, and bleeding. Esophago-tracheal or esophagobronchial fistulas may occur, . resulting in more frequent episodes of pulmonary infection. Metastases are most frequently to regional nodes, the liver, and the lung.
