CARCINOMA OF THE STOMACH
Most tumors of the stomach are adenocarcinomas. Only about 5 per cent are primary lymphomas of the stomach, and other malignant lesions (e.g., leiomyosarcoma) are rarer still. Since the clinical characteristics and diagnostic measures are similar for all malignant tumors of the stomach, this chapter will focus on adenocarcinoma. Benign tumors (e.g., leiomyomas and adenomas) are rarely the cause of symptoms, most often being found incidentally.
